Parga

Parga is an amazing city in the Ionian Sea in Northwestern Greece. This historic city is located between the cities of Igoumenitsa and Preveza in the region of Epirus. History

The Castle of Parga

There are estimates that the ancient city of Toryni was located on the site where Parga is built. The first historical references to the existence of Parga go back to the 11th century. Οver the centuries the parga was occupied by the Normans, the Venetians, the English and the Ottomans The Castle of Parga was built by the Normans at the 11th century. After many attacks and the destruction caused by Haireddin Barbarossa, French rebuilt the castle. The final form of the castle was taken in the 19th century by Ali Pasha.

Island of Parga

The Island of Parga is a very beautifull island with two small beaches, one chappel and one churce where a lot of marriages take place every summer. Also in the island exist a french fortress built in the 16th century.

You can reach this small island from the beach Krioneri by swimming or even by walking at one spot. Of course you can also take a water taxi or cross the water by a stand up paddle boat.
